Butter Yourself Up for a Better You

I am relaxing after completing an 8-hour CE course on clinical pathology. By choice actually.

It was a good refresher on the importance of utilizing certain basic techniques to assist in making the diagnosis easier and also in helping to contribute to profits. Diagnostics are our bread and butter in practice. It was emphasized that the cost to do these diagnostics is minimal, yet they could provide maximum worth to the patient and to the practice.

This got me thinking about how this is also true for the most important resource in the hospital – YOU. This resembles our own view of self-care. It takes time that I don’t have. Is it worth it to do this? What difference could it really make? You need to ask, what is the cost of not practicing self-care versus the worth (profit) of self-care to yourself and to your job.
