Nominations for the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners

Nominations are solicited as needed to replace individuals in expiring positions on the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (ASBVME). Nominations may come from any licensed veterinarian, licensed technician, or layperson in Alabama or via self-nomination. We will accept nominations through 11:59 pm on August 3, 2026.

The oversight committee will be specifically targeting under-represented Congressional Districts.  Congressional Districts shall be defined by the home mailing address of the nominee. At this time, the under-represented Congressional Districts are 5 and 6.

All nominees will be required to submit a signed nomination form (download below) showing willingness to serve, Curriculum Vitae (CV) and two letters of reference from ALVMA members, which will all be reviewed by the ALVMA Legislative Committee. If more than three names are submitted for any one position, the ALVMA membership will vote electronically. The three nominees receiving the most votes will be submitted to the Governor.

The following position will expire on September 27, 2026.

Layperson position currently held by Mrs. Brenda Glover.

Available for reappointment. 

The following position will expire on October 10, 2026.

DVM Position currently held by Charles D. Hart, Jr., DVM. 

Available for reappointment. 


As a reminder, veterinarian nominees must meet the following criteria established in the Veterinary Practice Act:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of veterinary medicine
  • Legal resident of Alabama
  • Currently and validly licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Alabama
  • Actively employed and licensed in the practice of veterinary medicine in the State of Alabama for the five years immediately prior to appointment
  • Continuing at least 35 hours per week in the practice of veterinary medicine while serving on the board.
