Wellness Resources

At the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (ALMVA), we recognize that caring for your own mental health is just as important as caring for your patients. The veterinary profession can be both rewarding and demanding, and no one should have to navigate life’s personal or professional challenges alone. That’s why ALMVA is committed to connecting members with confidential, professional mental health resources designed to provide support when it’s needed most.

Members have access to two options for seeking assistance – MYgroup and the Alabama Veterinary Professional Wellness Program.

MYgroup, ALMVA’s Member Assistance Program, which offers free telephone assessments by licensed, experienced clinicians; face-to-face, virtual (including BetterHelp), or telephone counseling sessions; short-term, solution-focused counseling and referrals to specialized resources when appropriate; and complete confidentiality—your employer will never know you’ve used the service.

Alabama Veterinary Professional Wellness Program (AVPWP), a confidential peer-guided program designed specifically for veterinary professionals. Guided by a committee of veterinary peers, the AVPWP’s mission is to connect participants with the professional help they need—without involvement from the State Board. The program’s approach is compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic, never punitive, with the goal of helping participants restore their well-being, address personal or professional challenges, and return to their careers with confidence. The AVPWP team is available to listen, provide guidance, and ensure Alabama veterinarians have the resources they need to move forward and be the healthiest version of themselves.
